B1: The One Hour ChoirJulie Enersen The One Hour Choir is an alternative singing experience which has generated a lot of enthusiasm in some of our congregations. Each appearance of the Choir is one-time self-contained show-up that morning open to all experience. Singers come on Sunday morning an hour before church, rehearse one or two songs, and then sing in the service. It is that simple! The One Hour Choir is for folks whose schedules are not compatible with a weekly rehearsal routine. It’s for families who would enjoy singing together. It’s for people who enjoy singing, but only if the music is simple and the atmosphere is casual. Could it be for you or your congregation? B2: Understanding Global Warming IssuesFritz Franzen and Sam Wormley Thomas Jefferson placed education as the foundation of a democracy. Unfortunately sometimes our government gets in the way of educating the public. Issues about global warming are excellent examples. Emeritus Professor of Chemistry Fritz Franzen and Adjunct Professor of Astronomy Sam Wormley will provide you with background about the cause and effect of global warming and provide you with tools to help you sort through scientific facts and political propaganda. UU principles four, six, and seven in particular apply. B3: Accessible Faith: Building Disability Awareness in PSDAmber R. Clifford-Napoleone This session has one mission: to develop full accessibility for UUs with disabilities within each congregation and within Prairie Star District as a whole. The workshop will explore the issues of disability awareness and accessibility among congregations within PSD by introducing those with disabilities to the larger PSD community, creating a forum for PSD members to discuss accessibility issues, and providing attendees with the materials they need to encourage a greater awareness of disability and accessibility in their home congregations. Among the specific topics to be discussed are ADA compliance, universal design, and both District and UUA resources available. B4: Resource Sharing Among CongregationsDawn Cooley Did you know that the PSD is a leader in finding ways to connect congregations to one another? B5: Charting Self: A Way to Think About My BeliefBob Williamson The Beliefs Chart offers a way to step back and look at the beliefs we’ve adopted or given up over the years in the context of changes in our relationships. This workshop will introduce participants to the design and use of Beliefs Chart as a tool for self-reflection, and will provide them an opportunity to begin a Beliefs Chart of their own. B6: Introduction to Healthy CongregationsCheri Cody Based on the work of Rev. Peter Steinke, this workshop will be an introduction to systems thinking. A preview of the Healthy Congregations workshop offered at various locations in Prairie Star District. B7: The Legacy of Peter SarpyDarrel Draper This humorous, factual, audience-interactive, costumed portrayal of Nebraska pioneer fur trader Peter Sarpy describes the transformation of the local area of Omaha and Bellevue into Nebraska Territory and eventually the state of Nebraska. Born a Roman Catholic in Louisiana Territory, Peter Sarpy applied Unitarian principles in dealing with the Native Americans and Mormons. The Chautauqua-style program has earned the Governor’s award for contributions to the legacy of Nebraska and is the most popular program of the Nebraska Humanities Council. B8: Anti-Racist, Anti-Oppressive, Multicultural Unitarian Universalism for All
