Chalice Lighters
The Chalice Lighters program helps congregations fund projects to build stronger communities. Chalice Lighters is supported by small, periodic contributions from a number of individual UUs around the District. The program awards four kinds of grants:
- Chalice Lighters Call: A call for a specific congregation or purpose is issued to the network of Chalice Lighters donors. A call typically yields an amount between $6,000 and $8,000. Calls are designed for the following purposes:
- Initiating a new congregation.
- Assisting in securing a building.
- Assisting in securing professional religious leadership.
- Growth Grants: Growth Fund grants, from a special Chalice Lighters fund, are made in amounts of $2,000 or less for projects which cannot be accomplished without outside assistance and which have the promise of helping the congregation reach out to new membership, improve or expand its program, or enhance its physical facilities.
- Campus Ministry/Young Adult Outreach Grants: Campus Ministry grants, also from Chalice Lighter funds, are made in amounts of $2,000 or less. They are designed to help existing congregations create or renew a campus ministry or a young adult outreach program.
- Social Justice Grants: Social Justice Grants (up to $1,000, from a separate Chalice Lighters fund) are designed to strengthen, empower, or integrate the social justice role into the full life of a the congregation.
See Chalice Lighters for more information on applying for a Chalice Lighters grant, or for supporting the Chalice Lighters program.
