Congratulations to both of you! PSD CongregationsAll Souls UU Church (Kansas City, MO) and Shawnee Mission UU Church (Overland Park, KS) are underwriting a ten-part series on Kansas City Public Television on Sunday afternoons this spring. “Beyond Theology explores the notion that the guiding mythologies of modern civilization are undergoing a metamorphosis of historic significance.” The tagline for the series says that the churches are “where diverse people with different beliefs come together to create a caring community and work for social justice.” For more information, contact the churches. Thirteen youth and six adults, including Rev. Nancy Haley, from the UU Society of Iowa City (IA) are off to Washington DC for a few days. They’ll tour our UUA Washington Office and get some tips on how to lobby in Congressional Offices, and they’ve scheduled a day of service at Beacon House, a UU-affiliated inner city youth center. They’ll also meet some youth from UU congregations in the area. UU Congregation of Duluth (MN) is planning a Building Dedication service for their new “green” building on Friday, May 16. UUA President Bill Sinkford will be present for the event. To find out more about their new building, seek them out at the Annual Conference in Omaha. They’re hosting the 2009 conference for us so they’re showing up in force in Omaha. Spirit of Life Church (Saint Cloud, MN) is co-sponsoring several showings of the movie “For the Bible Tells Me So” with representatives from St. Cloud State University, St. John’s Abbey, and UCC and Lutheran congregations. The movie features the experiences of several Christian families who discover that their children are gay. According to the promotional materials, the movie “offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity.” |
