Pastoral Care: Intro for Religious Educators

Thursday to Saturday
October 2–4, 2008
Minneapolis, Minnesota

15 hour training for paid religious educators (Please note that this is not a UUA Renaissance Module, however it does count toward training for the UUA Credentialing Program.)

Curriculum Information

The Pastoral Care for Religious Educators Module is an introduction to the basics of pastoral care. The training curriculum makes it clear that completion of this training does not “certify” one to provide pastoral care. Participants learn about the philosophy of pastoral care, the theological foundations of pastoral care in Unitarian Universalist settings, unique pastoral care needs of children, youth and families of color, and the importance of openness in communication and transparency with the parish minister. They also look at safety issues and spend considerable time role-playing and discussing real-life pastoral care scenarios, in addition to exploring the need for self-care and spiritual development of a Director of Religious Education.
