Workshop

This interactive workshop will explore the subject of making the culture shift from a philosophy of scarcity to one of abundance. The workshop will look at reasons why we give money to our congregations and the connection between money and mission. It will take a look at giving patterns in other denominations, within Unitarian Universalism and within our congregations. All participating congregational teams will be provided a copy of Wayne B. Clark’s new book Beyond Fundraising . . . A Complete Guide to Congregational Stewardship.

  • Developing effective stewardship campaigns that fully support the programs of our congregations
  • Effective communications around money
  • Program budgeting
  • How to begin and build an endowment for your congregation
  • Major capital campaigns and mini special campaigns
  • The proper role of fundraisers
  • Prairie Star District programs and how they help your congregations

Who Should Attend

This workshop is designed for congregational teams: Stewardship Campaign (Canvass) Team members and Chairs, Finance Committee members, Board members, anyone with an interest in congregational fund-raising.

Workshop Leader

Martha Easter-Wells
Martha is a Congregational Stewardship Consultant for the Unitarian Universalist Association. She works with congregations across the country on various aspects of fundraising, including capital campaigns, annual budget drives and endowments. She is an active member of the Davenport congregation, formerly serving as the Board Chair and currently serving as the Treasurer.

Costs

  • The workshop fee will be $125 for a team of up to three participants. Additional participants will be $40 each. (The fee includes registration and materials, Saturday breakfast and lunch).
  • Participants are responsible for their own housing arrangements.
    • Information on nearby motels will be sent on request.
    • Limited home hospitality may be available if requested at least two weeks in advance.
