Radius 2008 - FROM the INSIDE OUT

Conference for Young Adults
August 1-3, 2008
Kansas City, Missouri

Coming to you from the middle of the USA, Radius - From the Inside Out will feature Young Adult leaders sharing their experiences in leadership roles - from congregational board member to congregational staff to UUA Trustee.

Radius 2008 is an event designed for Young Adults ages 18-35, and we welcome adult allies who want to learn how better to include young adults in Unitarian Universalist work.

This event is being designed by young adults and allies from Prairie Star, Central Midwest, Mountain Desert, and Heartland Districts, but all young adults are welcome. We are hoping to provide an environment in which people can develop relationships, deepen their own spirituality, learn useful skills in the areas of social justice, anti-oppression, and anti-racism, and share their own special skills of creativity with each other. At Radius, we will take time to learn some basic leadership skills and ways to apply them in your own work, explore misappropriation of Native American culture, and have ample time to share our own experiences and grow our spirituality and community.

Workshops include:

  • working on Habitat for Humanity homes in KC,
  • Religion in Art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art,
  • Contemporary Worship,
  • Nurturing Young Adults in your Congregation,
  • Organizing Events,
  • Thinking of Seminary?,
  • Singing the Young Adult Tradition,
  • and more!

Why Radius?

During Concentric 2007 at Unicamp, Laya Liebeseller from Des Moines and Sherry Warren, PSD Youth and Young Adult Specialist, met in a regional group with other young adults from Prairie Star, Central Midwest, Heartland, and Mountain Desert Districts. The C*UUYAN Steering Committee had just announced that Concentric and Opus (back-to-back conferences for young adults) were going on hiatus for 2008, but young adults and allies still needed an opportunity to network and learn in a UU environment. As a group we decided to organize Radius 2008.
