Nominating Committee

Youth Adult Committee Election Process

Nominating Committee (NC): The Nominating Committe is a group of 7, 9, or 11 people in attendance at the District’s Annual Youth Conference and Business Meeting (at Boone), who are charged with becoming acquainted with the nominees, who are also in attendance at Boone.

The NC is responsible for reviewing the applications of all possible candidates and making recommendations for the election of individuals to available YAC positions. NC members are not eligible to seek election to available YAC positions. In making these recommendations, the NC will be using these criteria:

  1. Best qualified—experience, potential, dependability, ability to attend YAC meetings, and maturity.
  2. Geography balance
  3. Gender balance
  4. Age and grade requirements of position; e.g. Junior High Rep must be in Junior High; a position with two year terms would require that the nominee not be a High School Senior.

Sign up for the NC will be available:

  1. On the Annual Conference registration form,
  2. At the registration table on the first night of the Annual Conference

Procedure:

  • The NC will meet briefly at Boone on Friday night to discuss their charge.
  • The NC will meet with all nominees attending during Saturday morning free time.
  • The NC will meet on Saturday afternoon to discuss nominees and make their recommendations.
  • The NC gets to consume as much candy & other junk as they want.

The Annual Meeting and Election

  1. Potential candidates for all open elected positions will be encouraged to send in with their annual conference registrations. Applications will also be accepted early at the conference. Each candidate will be asked to supply and name and a telephone number of a reference.
  2. The NC will review candidates’ applications and references interviewing them, and bring up a slate to the entire voting body at the business meeting.
  3. Each nominee will have the opportunity to speak to the entire voting body and answer questions.
  4. Voting at the business meeting will be accomplished through secret ballot. The ballot will contain the positions to be voted upon and a “yes,” “no,” or “abstention,” for each position.
  5. There will be no nominations from the floor, and any write-ins will be counted as abstentions.
  6. If the candidate presented by the nominating committee is not chosen at the business meeting, there are several consequences. These include the NC reevaluating other candidates that were previously identified presenting another nomination to the voting body, and re-voting. If there are no nominations, then the PSD committee on committee will find and appoint a suitable candidate.
  7. All conference attendees must attend the annual meeting and election.

Profuse thanks and homie-age to the NC.
