We use lots of acronyms and terms that can be confusing if you don’t know what they mean.

ARAO – Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression; refers to programs and YRUU initiative to fight racism and oppression.

BPC – The “Boone” Planning Committee; subgroup of the PSD YAC. Charged with coordinating the annual PSD Youth Conference in Boone, IA

CAC – “Conference Affairs Committee”; the group charged with overseeing the consequences of rule infractions at a Con. Consists of youth & adults.

Code of Ethics – standard UUA document adults working with YRUU are often asked to sign

CON – short for Youth Conference

CUC – Canadian Unitarian Council – The main association and service provider for Unitarians and Universalists in Canada.

C*UUYAN – Continental Unitarian Universalist Young Adult Network – The UU network for Young Adults aged 18–35.

DRE – Director of Religious Education – The individual employed by many local congregations to run the RE program.

DLRE – Director of Lifespan Religious Education – a term to describe the individual employed by local congregations to run lifespan religious education programs.

GA – General Assembly – The annual business meeting of the UUA, to which congregations send delegates. The youth participants form a Youth Caucus every year to discuss business and plan social events, with assistance from the Youth Office.

LDC – Leadership Development Conference. For both youth and adults, and can take place on the local, district, ad continental level.

LFD – Lifespan Faith Development. Programming that assumes people are lifelong learners, and congregations should nurture the spiritual development of individuals throughout their lifetimes.

LIFT – Life Issues for Teenagers – A UUA-published curriculum for use in UU youth groups.

OWL – Our Whole Lives – A curriculum by the UUA and UCC for use in UU youth groups.

PSD – Prairie Star District – the 8 state district defining the area by which we are grouped as UUs.

PSY – Prairie Star Youth – the body of youth and their adult advisors across the Prairie Star District.

RE – Religious Education – Education regarding religious issues. It is also a UUA department at 53 Beacon Street designed to handle the development, consultation, and maintenance of all denominational UU RE programs and curriculum.

REG – short for registration form.

SOA – Seal of Approval – A certification given to show a PSD youth CON follows district YAC guidelines for youth conferences.

SDC – Spiritual Development Conference.

Touch Group – a small group formed for the purpose of building community ... sometimes mixed generations; often separate youth & adult groups.

Worship – a ritual ascribing worth to a concept or theme; some would say the most powerful or meaningful element of a youth conference.

YAYA – Youth And Young Adults – describes UUs in teenage, college-age and young adult age groups.

YC – Youth Council – The continental governing body of YRUU.

YCR – Youth Council Representative – Any of the district representative and at-large representative who serve on UUA Youth Council.

YAC – the Youth/Adult Committee; this is the policy making board for district youth. Many congregations have a local YAC to oversee YRUU activities.

YRUU – Young Religious Unitarian Universalist – An organization for UU youth ages 14–20 in the US and Canada.

YSJC – Youth Social Justice Conference.

UU – Unitarian Universalist.

UUA – Unitarian Universalist Association – The association of all the Unitarian Universalist congregations in Canada and the U.S. Is also used to refer to the UUA headquarters in Boston.

UUSC – UU Service Committee – An associate organization, which works for social justice around the globe, and is located in Cambridge, MA.

UUYAN – UU Young Adult Network – A continental network of young adults ages 18–35.
